What is Diwali Muhurat Trading?
Muhurat Trading is a special one-hour trading session conducted by the Indian stock exchanges, including the NSE and BSE, on the occasion of Diwali. It is a long-standing tradition for the Indian trading community, marking the beginning of the new Hindu accounting year, known as Samvat. Investors consider this period auspicious to buy stocks and pray for wealth and prosperity in the year ahead.

Significance for Investors
For many traders and investors, the Muhurat Trading session is more about tradition than financial gains. It is common for market participants to make token purchases, buying their first stock of the new Samvat. While trading volumes are generally lower than on a regular day, the session is symbolic of a positive start for the upcoming year. It’s a time when the market is filled with optimism for a prosperous financial year.
